Visas for Short term Visitors (Non immigrant)
The current waiting period for an appointment is 11 - 30 working days, There is expedited appointments for business and student travelers. All appointment scheduling for visa interviews must be processed through TT Services in Colombo.
TT Services (TTS) is only responsible for scheduling appointments.
TT Services will not accept any supporting documents.
Visa interview procedures remain the same at the U.S. Embassy.
All Visa applicants should bring their supporting documents to the U.S. Embassy.
Faxes and letters in support of specific Visa applications MUST be sent to the Visa applicant, not to The U.S. Embassy. or TTS.
Under U.S. law, all applicants are presumed to be intending immigrants and must demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the consular officer, that they are entitled to the type of visa for which they are applying and that they will depart the United States at the end of their authorized temporary stay.
This means that before a visa can be issued, applicants must demonstrate strong social, economic, and family ties outside of the United States and have a clear purpose of travel.

Student Visas,Once you have decided on the school/college/University you are wishing to attend, please apply through TTS to reserve an appointment time. Students have a waiting period of only 7 working days and must have a valid I-20 at the time of their interview.Visa Services.

Bank draft for Rs.10,900 drawn on a Sri Lankan bank
made out to - U.S. Embassy Colombo.
Applicants for a L1 work visa must pay an additional payment of Rs. 54,500 as Bank Draft drawn on a Sri Lankan bank made out to - US Embassy Colombo.
This ia a non-refundable fee for the prevention of fraud

US Visa applicants must allow Ten-Fingerprint Biometric.
From December 2007 it is necessary for most immigrant and non-immigrant to submit ten electronic fingerprint impressions.
This will take place when the applicant come for the visa interview.
It will take only one or two minutes with the electronic scanner and it is a clean and ink free method.
There are no changes in the requirements for categories of applicants who must provide fingerprints at the interview. As before, applicants for diplomatic or official visa cases, applicants under 14 or over 79 years of age, and medical emergency cases are exempt from the requirement.
Those who have a cut, blister or other temporary skin injury on their fingers may not be issued a visa until their fingers heal and can be fingerprinted.
